There’s just something magical about a kid playing dress up, and what easier way to encourage fun and creativity, and not to mention increase visibility, than to create a paper crown for Walk to School Day?
Imagine a whole line of children and their parents, walking to school on October 5th, wearing DIY paper crowns with images of them walking to school with their family and friends! Just download the template to the right and during your next art lesson, talk about the importance of walking to school for your health, the environment, and for fun! Pass them out the day before Walk to School Day and remind your students to wear them with pride!
Directions:
Cut along the dotted lines. Color and decorate.
Ideas: add your name, write the name of your school, draw pictures of you and your friends walking to school.
Don’t forget to submit your materials request form to receive FREE giveaways for Walk to School Day. Deadline is September 16.

Join kids and families around the world to walk to school in October! Walk to School Day is October 5, 2011 and San Francisco’s Safe Routes to School program is gearing up to support schools across San Francisco to have a safe and fun event. Last year, nearly 7,000 students in 34 schools walked to school! We hope to see even more in 2011.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Choose at least ONE MEETING SITE within 3 blocks of your school where everyone will gather before walking. There should be adequate space for a large group to meet. Having available parking nearby can help children who live far from the school join in the fun too!
- Choose a TIME to assemble at your meeting site.
- PROMOTE Walk to School Day meeting SITE and TIME.
- Contact VOLUNTEERS, including the walk to School Day coordinator, to encourage students and their families.
- Order PRIZES from the Walk to School Day coordinator.
Keep checking this website for the resources and tips to have a successful Walk to School Day. The 2011 Walk to School Day Toolkit will be available soon for download. Make sure to submit the Request Form by September 16. We provide giveaways such as pencils, belt wraps, reflective stickers, and discounts to Sports Basement, on a first-come, first-served basis for schools to distribute to participants.
And remember, have fun!
