Bike to School Week is an annual event to celebrate the joys and many benefits of biking to school. The Safe Routes to School Partnership provides incentives and resources to participating schools to host an event during one week each spring.
Bike to School Week is coordinated by the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, a member of the Safe Routes to School Partnership. For specific event related questions email us.

History
On May 28th, 2009 approximately 500 students in 25 San Francisco schools biked to school in San Francisco’s first ever citywide Bike to School Day! Since then close to 6000 youth and adults have participated in the event at over 40 schools citywide.
In support of this effort, the San Francisco Unified School District Board of Education stepped forward to endorse the goals of the SF Bike to School event and also to state that:
“The Board of Education encourages all of its teachers to engage their students around the benefits of bicycling in the interest of creating the healthiest and safest school and community environments and promoting healthier lifestyles.”
