Mayor Ed Lee, Muni executive director Ed Reiskin, and Supervisor Jane Kim will be among several city officials participating in Walk to School Day on Oct. 5.

Overall, 44 city schools will take part in Walk to School Day, an international event aimed at drawing awareness to pedestrian needs and goals. Lee, Kim and Reiskin will all walk to the event’s featured school, Marshall Elementary in the Mission neighborhood.

They’ll be joined by Elizabeth Stampe, executive director of Walk SF, a pedestrian-advocacy organization that successfully lobbied for the implementation of 15 mph speed limits on city streets near schools.

The walk to Marshall will start at 7:45 a.m. at nearby Kidpower Park on Hoff Street, where Recreation and Park executive director Phil Ginsburg will lead some warm up exercises. Lee, Kim and Reiskin are scheduled to arrive at Marshall at 8:30 a.m., where they will each speak at the schoolyard for about 10 minutes.
